Armenia Independence Day
On behalf of the United States, I am pleased to congratulate the people of Armenia on Independence Day. On September 21, 1991, the people of Armenia declared their independence from the Soviet Union.
Over the past year, the Armenian government and people have taken bold steps to expand political participation and advance democratic rule. Armenia now has a unique opportunity to fight corruption in a timely manner, strengthen the rule of law through an independent judiciary, and attract more foreign investment. I look forward to continuing our work with Armenia in realizing these goals and preparing a better future for the next generation of Armenians.
