Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib

Mirza Ghalib (1797-1869) is considered to be the greatest poet of Urdu language. The secret of his greatness lies not only in the beauty and eloquence of his poetry.

His greatness is that he understood the realities of life and the human psyche in depth and explained them to the common people in a very simple way.

He saw the British nation coming from outside and dominating the country. Probably this is the background which broadened his vision and thought.

Mirza Ghalib's name was Asadullah Beg Khan. father name was Abdallah Baig . He was born in Agra in December 1797. Ghalib was orphaned in his childhood and was brought up by his uncle Mirza Nasrullah Baig but his uncle also died at the age of eight.

Nawab Ahmad Bakhsh Khan fixed the stipend of Mirza's family from the British. In 1810, at the age of thirteen, he married Amra Begum, daughter of Mirza Elahi Bakhsh Khan Maroof, younger brother of Nawab Ahmad Bakhsh. After saying goodbye to his homeland, he took up permanent residence in Delhi.

After the marriage, Mirza's expenses increased and he became indebted. During this time they faced financial difficulties and the debt burden began to increase.

Eventually, due to financial difficulties, Ghalib took a job at the fort and in 1850, Bahadur Shah Zafar gave Mirza Ghalib the title of Najam-ud-Daulah Dabir-ul-Mulk Nizam-e-Jang and commissioned him to write the history of the Timurid dynasty. Stipend was fixed.

After the treason, Mirza's government pension also stopped. Therefore, after the Revolution of 1857, Mirza wrote to Nawab Yusuf Ali Khanwali Rampur for help.

He fixed a monthly stipend of Rs. 100 which Mirza continued to receive for life.

Due to excessive drinking, his health was completely destroyed. He fainted before he died and died on February 15, 1869.
